From the academic year 2014 to 2015, Journey Nepal will be offering two scholarships to the secondary school children in the remote area of Fulkharka in the Dhading district. An amount of NRP50,000 (approx US$500) will be granted to one boy and one girl who achieve the highest marks in the final year of secondary school.

We want to encourage the children to further their education, but also to return to their village with their new skills. Brain drain (and skills drain) is an enormous problem in Nepal. So many young people leave their village and travel to Kathmandu or to overseas countries, which has widespread implications for the villages. Not only are families separated, but when the young, strong people leave the village it means the older villagers need to take on more of the physical work.
